CMprint manual 1.7

1   Introduction

The CMprint enables self-service payment for printing, copying and scanning, with payment by coin or credit card. It is compatible with most printers and MFPs.

The payment methods available depend on the options you choose when you place your order. In the following document, we'll use the terms CMprint or coin mechanism indifferently.

The main customer operations with the CMprint are:

• Copy

o In cash, inserting coins displays the credit on the screen.

o By bank card, after having selected the information of the job to be carried out, the amount of the transaction is evaluated. Once validated, the user presents their bank card to pay for their copy credit which is displayed on the screen.

• USB print

o Inserting the USB key at the bottom of the touch screen to enable selecting files and pages, as well as printing parameters (format, black & white or colour, number of copies), and document preview.

o In cash, the credit must be equal to or greater than the selection.

o By credit card, the user presents their credit card to pay for prints.

• Email printing through PrinterKiosk

o If the operator has subscribed to the PrinterKiosk option, the following function is available: The user sends one or more documents by e-mail and receives in return an e-mail indicating a print code. On the MFP, the user enters his print code and is invited to select the options for the document to be printed (format, black & white or colour, number of copies), and can then pay in cash or by credit card.

• Scan (this requires the MFP to be AirScan (eSCL) compatible

o Load the document on the MFP glass or into the document feeder (depending on the scanner configuration), and the preview of scanned documents will be displayed on the CMprint screen.

o The user can then pay for their documents using cash or a bank card. After payment, the documents will be transferred to the USB stick (scan-to-USB option) or downloaded to the smartphone by scanning a QR Code (scan-to-smartphone option).

2   Customer journey

2.1   Home screen

From this page, three buttons give access to CMprint main features (the buttons can be disabled in the administration menu):

• “COPY button” is dedicated for copy features

• “PRINT button” is dedicated for printing features (USB Print and PrinterKiosk printing).

• “SCAN button” is dedicated for scanning features (Scan-to-USB and Scan-to-Smartphone).

At the top right side, a “flag button” is displayed (the displayed flags correspond to the available languages of CMprint). Clicking on this “flag button” moves to the language selection page:

Users can choose the language by clicking on the corresponding flag.

From the home screen, users can also insert coins. CMprint displays the copy menu upon coin insertion.

2.2   Copy

2.2.1   Standard Copy

The Standard Copy mode is the classic mode designed for MFPs equipped with a built-in copier interface.

In the standard mode, the COPY menu allows users to pay for selected copies from the MFP interface.

To release copies on the MFP, users must add credit on the CMprint by using the available means of payments:

• For a cash payment, by inserting coins (if this option is available)

• For a bank card payment (if this option is available), by following the steps below:

o Select the “Bank Card payment button”,

o Select the number of pages to copy.

o Click on the basket.

o Pay on the bank terminal.

If there is enough credit, the MFP is ready to make copies and the following screen is displayed:

The user can then make copies on the MFP interface, with the credit being debited according to usage. When the credit reaches the value of 0, the CMprint automatically returns to the COPY home page.

2.2.2   Smart Copy

Starting from version 1.7.0, CMprint supports the Smart Copy feature, enabling charging for copies made on multifunction printers without a built-in copier interface. Therefore, this copy mode is available for Brother, Epson, and Lexmark (excluding OEM) MFPs. If the connected MFP is compatible, the Smart Copy feature can be activated in the “Admin > Configuration > Client features” menu (see § 4.2.2.6 – Client Features).

With the Smart Copy feature, the entire copy process is managed directly on the CMprint. This dedicated user experience includes a document preview function that allows users to review their documents before proceeding with payment.

Users should first place the document on the MFP glass or in the feeder, then select the copy options on the CMprint screen, as shown below:

When the user confirms the desired options and clicks on the “START” button, CMprint process a scan. If the scan is successful, the following cases apply:

• If the user has sufficient credit for the copy:

o If the “simple-sided” option is selected or the “duplex-sided” option is selected with the document is placed on the feeder, the document will be printed directly.

o The “double-sided” option is selected and the document is placed on the glass, the preview screen with the

“NEXT ORIGINAL” button will be displayed, allowing the user to turn the document to scan the other side.

• If the user does not have sufficient credit for the copy:

o The preview screen is always displayed.

o The user can either click the pay button to pay by cash or contactless payment to release the document, or place

additional originals if the document contains multiple pages.

2.3   Printing

The CMprint provides the three following printing modes:

• USB printing,

• Email printing (enabled if the PrinterKiosk option is subscribed),

• PC Prints.

From this screen, users choose the print mode:

2.3.1   USB printing

USB printing enables PDF files and image documents to be printed from a USB Key.

The supported document formats are:

• PDF

• Image (jpeg, jpg, png, gif).

The supported USB Key file systems are:

• FAT32

• FAT

• NTFS (supported starting from version v1.7.0)

Once USB printing has been chosen, the following page is displayed:

When a user plugs in their USB key on the CMprint, he can browse the documents.

The user can swipe (left or right) or click on the “arrow button” to move to the different pages.

ATTENTION! Only the supported documents are displayed.

Once a document has been selected, CMprint analyses it in order to:

• Calculate its price,

• Load its preview.

For the USB printing, the file size must not exceed 25 MB.

Once finished, the document printing page is displayed:

The user can swipe left to change the current page and click on the image to zoom on the preview.

From the OPTIONS menu, users can also change the printing options:

The available options depend on the MFP features. For example, if the MFP does not feature an A3 tray, the A3 option are disabled.

The following options are available:

• Number of copies.

• Page selection.

• Duplex.

• Colour.

• Format.

ATTENTION! Click on “back button” to save the selected options.

The price and preview will be updated according to the selected options.

Once the document has been paid, the page printing in progress is displayed:

The printing progress screen disappears once printing is completed on the MFP or the printer. Error management is supported, if an error occurs (paper jam…), the credit remains available on the CMprint, allowing users to attempt printing again.

2.3.2   Email printing (through PrinterKiosk)

Email printing is only provided through PrinterKiosk option.

For further information, please visit www.printerkiosk.com

A unique e-mail address is associated with your printer and will be given to you by PrinterKiosk's technical department when you set up your printing site.

The user sends one or more documents by email to the address dedicated to your MFP or printer. This email can be sent from any geographical location, and you don't need to be near the printer when sending your email.

In return, the user receives an email with a print code. The user can then collect their printouts from the addressed MFP/printer on the CMprint, the printing code has to be entered and the document printing options selected (page selection, black & white or colour, number of copies).

The supported document formats are:

• PDF

• Image (jpeg, jpg, png, gif)

• Doc (docx, doc, odt)

• Presentation (odp, ppt, pptx)

• Text (txt, rtf, xps)

When the user clicks on the “PrinterKiosk” button, the following page is displayed. This page provides detailed instructions on how to use the PrinterKiosk feature. Users are guided to either send their document to the provided email address or scan the displayed QR code.

After sending the document, users should enter the PrinterKiosk code received by email into the provided field. Usually, the code consists of 6 digits.

Once a valid code has been entered, the documents sent by email can be viewed and selected and the following pages are displayed:

From now, the printing customer journey is similar to the USB printing customer journey.

The PrinterKiosk option also allows you to have access to the merchant portal allowing you to see the commercial activity of CMprint (https://www.printerkiosk.com then Partner space).

2.3.3   PC Prints

Some MFPs brands offer the possibility to set up a PIN code in the Print Driver through the Secure Print option on the PC. If this option is activated, users must enter the PIN code to release the document on the MFP. The “PC Prints” feature allows users to pay for print jobs with the CMprint for jobs submitted from computers on the LAN.

This feature can be activated from the menu Admin > Configuration > Client features. The PC Prints feature is incompatible with USB and Email printing. This means that if PC Prints is activated, USB Prints and PrinterKiosk Prints will be automatically deactivated.

When the user clicks to the Print button, the following screen will be displayed allowing them to select the number of colour or black and white pages of the submitted document.

Once the user pays the document price, the MFP will be unlocked. CMprint displays an animation to guide the user in releasing their jobs on the MFP using the PIN code entered in the Print Driver.

2.4   Duplex Discount

Starting from version 1.7.0, CMprint introduces the duplex discount feature, designed to encourage and prioritize double-sided copying and printing.

Feature Availability

• Copying: This feature is available exclusively on:

o Konica Minolta and Canon MFPs equipped with serial copier interfaces(Standard Copy feature).

o Compatible MFPs with the Smart Copy feature.

• Printing: Supported across all MFP brands.

• Limitation (for copying on Konica Minolta only): Users must have credit for at least two simplex copies, even when performing a duplex copy.

Configuration

The duplex discount amount can be configured in the ‘Price and Formats’ menu:

Administration > Configuration > Price and Formats.

The discount is applied for every two-page price equivalent when double-sided mode is used.

User Interface

Once the duplex discount is configured, the discounted amount will be clearly displayed in both the copy and print menus, as shown in the following example:

2.5   Scan

If CMprint connects to an AirScan (eSCL) compatible MFP, the scanning features will be activated. The user can access this function through the scan button on the home page. Subsequently, the user has the option to choose either scan-to-USB or scan-to-smartphone. Please note that the scan-tosmartphone feature is exclusively available to PrinterKiosk subscribers. If scan-to-USB is selected, the user must insert a USB key at the bottom of the touchscreen.

Depending on the scanner configuration, the user can scan documents either on the MFP glass or in the paper tray (an animation corresponding to each configuration is displayed on the CMprint to guide the user).

A preview of the scanned documents is available if the scan finishes successfully. If not, an error message is displayed to the user. When using the flatbed scanner, CMprint prompts the user to confirm whether they want to combine all scans into a single PDF file.

The scanned documents will be transferred on the USB stick after payment by cash or bank card.

If the user selects “scan to smartphone”, at the end of scanning process, they scan the displayed QR code with their smartphone to retrieve the scanned documents.

2.6   Dematerialized receipt

If the dematerialized ticket is activated and there is no connection problem with the receipt server (CartadisArchives), when the user completes their operation (copy/print/scan) CMprint displays a QR Code. By scanning this QR Code the user can retrieve their receipt on their smartphone. When the user saves the receipt to the mobile file system using the share button, the receipt server generates a PDF file named CMprint_receipt_XXXX_YY.pdf (XXXX is the CMprint serial number, YY is the receipt number).

The header and footer of the receipt can be customized (see § 4.2.2.1.4 General configuration/USB Import)

Below is an example of a receipt:

2.7   Miscellaneous

2.7.1   Inactivity

There is an inactivity timeout during the customer journey. The default value is 3 minutes.

The timer triggers after a 3-minute inactivity time (configurable in the administration menu).

When this timer triggers and the current balance is 0, CMprint returns on the sleeping page, displaying the current date and time on a black screen.

2.7.2   Reset Credit Timer and overpayment

There is a credit reset delay during the customer journey. The default value is 6 minutes.

When this timer triggers, the CMprint returns to the home page and resets the current credit to 0.

A message warns the user 30 seconds before the credit is reset. The lost credit is saved into the statistics and is visible in the collection file in the overpayment section.

2.7.3   MFP error management

When the MFP is not ready (no paper, toners empty, error on printer, network error), an error message is displayed to the user when he tries to pay for the service.

The MFP properties administration menu provides details to diagnostic the issue.

3   PrinterKiosk

3.1   Introduction

PrinterKiosk is an optional email-based printing service. As long as you have the “Cartadis'n Pay” credit card option and subscribe to the PrinterKiosk contract, you can share your printing resources with other PrinterKiosk network partners.

As a partner, you will benefit from the promotion carried out by Cartadis to promote the PrinterKiosk network, you will recover the PrinterKiosk network's clientele and thus increase your printing volume and profitability.

4.1.2.4   MFP

a) MFP settings

This menu is used to set up the Print Driver using the MFP IP address

By default, the printing protocol is IPP. New printing protocols (IPPS, LPD/LPR, AppSocket/HP JetDirect) are supported by CMprint version 1.2 or higher. If your CMprint connects to an MFP that only supports IPP/IPPS protocol in a version lower than 2.0, auto-creation of printer driver by MFP IP address (driverless option) will not be possible. CMprint will use the default PostScript driver (Postscript driver option) that may not reflect the correct properties of the MFP. In this case, you can import the original driver of your MFP from the “USB IMPORT” menu (see § 4.2.2.1.4 General Configuration/USB Import) and return to the MFP menu and select the custom driver option.

If the connected MFP is AirScan (eSCL) compatible, from the version 1.2 the scan function is automatically activated during the configuration by MFP IP address. The scan function can be disabled by unchecking the scan option.

To print and/or scan on the MFP, you need to enter the MFP IP address and click on the “Save” button. Attention: the MFP IP address must be a static IP. An error message may appear if the MFP is not online. If the MFP is successfully detected, the MFP properties and the scanner properties are displayed through the “MFP PROPERTIES” button and the “SCAN PROPERTIES” button.

b) MFP Properties

On this page, the MFP properties are displayed:

• Name of the MFP

• MFP status (Ok, Offline, In error)

• MFP functionalities

• Paper levels (OK, Low or No paper)

• Toner levels

Information: If the MFP status is detected as faulty or offline, the CMprint informs the customer of the error. If paper or toner information is not available, the CMprint indicates “unknown” for paper levels and -1% for toner levels, but the CMprint does not consider the MFP as faulty.

c) Scanner properties

This screen displays:

• Scanner status (Ok, Offline)

• Paper sources:

o Flatbed (Scan on the MFP glass)

o ADF (Scan simplex into the document feeder)

o ADF Duplex (Scan duplex into the document feeder)

o Copy option is visible by default

o If the connected MFP is compatible with the Smart Copy feature (Brother, Epson, and Lexmark excluding OEM models), the Smart Copy feature becomes visible and replaces the Copy feature.

• USB printing

• PC Prints

• Scan

• Options: Colour and large format (A3/Legal/Ledger)

• PrinterKiosk

          o Email printing

          o Scan to smartphone feature

ATTENTION! It is required that the functionalities that you enable are available on the MFP connected to the CMprint.

A QR code to go to the PrinterKiosk web page will be displayed if the PrinterKiosk feature is deactivated

4.1.2.7   Payment (advanced)

The “Payment settings” section allows you to:

• Enable/disable the payment by coins (if coin-operated, the number of different coins accepted is 6).

• Enable/disable the dematerialized receipt (available from version 1.3)

• By default, the coin multiplier = 5 allows acceptance of a range of coins from 0.05 to 5.00. If you want the CMprint to accept a higher range of coins from your country, you'll need to change this setting. For example: if the coin multiplier is changed to 10, the coin range would be between 0.10 and 10.

• Set up the minimum amount for bankcard payment (available from the version 1.4).

You can also consult the information on the bank card terminal if it is connected via the MDB communication protocol (such as NAYAX bank terminals):

• MDB interface is an embedded electronic interface card connected between the CMprint and the bank card terminal. When its status is OK, the information about the connected bank card terminal is displayed.

From version 1.4 onwards, the CMprint is compatible with the new Cartadis'n Pay payment solution with the Verifone UX410 terminal. The status of the UX410 terminal and all its information are displayed in this menu. The Cartadis'n Pay terminal does not use the MDB protocol, but communicates with the CMprint via an Ethernet network.

4.1.3   Statistics menus

The Statistics menu provides various accounting information and manages the cash collection.

4.1.3.1   Counters

The CMprint manages the following counters statistics:

• SALES REVENUE: breakdown of sales by payment method.

• JOBS VOLUME: breakdown of sales by type of print job (Copy, Print from USB…).

• PAID PAGES: breakdown of sales by document type (A3 / A4, B&W / Colour).

Two types of counters are available:

• Reference counters: these counters are never reinitialized. They are initialized to 0 at the factory, then incremented according to sales.

• Periodic counters: these counters are reinitialized each time an operator is doing a cash collection (see § 4.1.3.2).

The above pie charts show an overview of counters.

From version 1.6, the inserted coin quantity statistics can be accessible from the menu Statistics > Sales revenues > Coins

4.1.3.2   Cash collection

The procedure for cash collection is:

• Physically collect cash from the cash coin box. Staff in charge of collection can exchange cash boxes without having access to the cash (if ZKITCAISSE-CMPRINT option purchased).

• Inform the CMprint of the cash collection by pressing the “COLLECT” button.

• A receipt of the collected cash information is stored.

Note: At the cash collection stage, the periodical counters are reset, and if any credit remains from the last customer, it will be reset and placed on overpayment.

Collect receipt can be printed on the MFP at the moment of cash collection or later from the COLLECT HISTORY menu. It can also be stored on a USB key.

The collect receipt is a PDF file with the name showing the collect details (for example: 20220318151834_1000_Collect.pdf >>> 20220318 = date _ 151834 = 15h18mn34s _ 1000 = CMprint serial number).

Collect receipt header can be customized by importing an header.txt file using the “IMPORT USB” feature (see § 4.2.2.1.4 General configuration/USB Import).

4.1.3.3   Counters export

A backup of all counters can be exported to a USB stick. The file is in “.tar.gz” format and can be opened with a tool such as “7zip” (e.g. CMprint_Counters_1000_202202021010.tar.gz).

4.1.4   Maintenance menu

This menu allows you to:

• Restart the device,

• Update the CMprint software by plugging in an USB key that contains the firmware package.

• Manually install a peripheral interface firmware (available from version 1.2). Compatible peripheral interfaces:

o KCC: parallel copier interface (from hardware version CI21210)

4.1.5   Free mode

By clicking on the “FREE MODE” button (since version 1.2, the “FREE MODE” button has been moved to the bottom left of the Administration menu), the operator can use CMprint in customer mode without having to pay.

"FREE MODE” is displayed on the top bar to indicate that it is currently active.

4.1.6   Test menu

Test menu allows the operator to perform the various tests below:

The Test menus let you check if the admin key is running correctly (ADMIN KEY menu), if there are no counting problems with the parallel interface card (COPY CLICK menu) and the different means of payment (COIN ACCEPTOR and CB PAYMENT menus) are functional.

The SIM interface test menu only appears when the CMprint detects a connected SIM (serial) interface. This test requires the connection of a dedicated test cable (“plug” cable on screen) to the Sub-D connector.

Network test menu allows to perform a ping test with an IP address.

If a UX410 terminal is connected, the credit card terminal test menu appears, allowing you to perform a terminal diagnostic and display the results.

4.2   Diagnostics

4.2.1   Information bar

The information bar is displayed at the top of all CMprint screens.

It contains diagnostic information:

• On the left side:

          o Date and time

          o CMprint firmware version.

Copying: The CMprint is recognized by the MFP as a key counter and must be connected accordingly, except when using Smart Copy mode, which only requires a network connection.

• Printing & Scanning: The CMprint requires an Ethernet connection to communicate with the MFP.

• Power Supply: The CMprint does not have an internal power source; it operates with an external +12V DC power supply

5.2.1   Prerequisites

• Power: A 100-240V AC (1.7A) power socket near the CMprint.

• Network: An RJ45 socket with Internet access (required for USB printing, PrinterKiosk option, and remote assistance).

5.2.2   Power supply connection

The electrical installation involves connecting the external power supply to a socket capable of supplying between 100 and 240Vac at a consumption of 1.7 ampere maximum.

For obvious safety reasons, you must install a 30mA differential circuit breaker on the 240V supply at the electrical panel.

Before starting the electrical connection, check that the circuit breaker is in the OFF position.

5.2.3   CMprint connection for copies service

Before connecting

The MFP must be properly configured to enable the coin vendor mode (depending on the MFP brand, external accessory must be required).

Additionally, the copier hardware interface (MFP or SERIAL) and a Cartadis cable must be connected to the CMprint.

For more information on supported MFP models, please consult the CartadisDB tool (see Appendix 6.1).

The connection to the MFP key counter is different for each brand of MFP and for different generations of MFPs within the same brand. To adapt to these specifications, the CMprint must be connected to an MFP using a Cartadis adapter cable compatible with the MFP model in question.

If you have an MFP (multifunction printer supporting the “copy” function). An internal connection specific to your MFP model is required to control your MFP's “copy” mode:

• Konica Minolta and Canon MFPs

These MFPs require a “serial” communication to control their copy mode. The SERIAL interface option must be ordered with your CMprint system. Depending on the exact model of your MFP, a specific link cable between CMprint and MFP will also need to be ordered, please consult the CartadisDB - Cartadis website to identify the model you will need.

• Kyocera, Ricoh, Sharp, Toshiba and Xerox MFPs

These MFPs require a “parallel” communication to control their copy mode. The MFP interface option must be ordered with your CMprint system. Depending on the exact model of your MFP, a specific link cable between CMprint and MFP will also need to be ordered, please consult the CartadisDB - Cartadis website to identify the model you will need. If the CMprint is connected to a Sharp MFP, activate the Sharp mode of the MFP interface by connecting a jumper to the 2 pins labelled JP2.

• Brother, Epson, and Lexmark (excluding OEM) MFPs with the Smart Copy

The only connection between the CMprint and the MFP is a network connection Ethernet. No specific interface is required.

It is therefore important to identify the correct cable reference to use; to do this please contact Cartadis or check the CartadisDB online documentation.

5.2.4   CMprint connection for print/scan service

The CMprint must be connected to the same local Ethernet network as the MFP to enable printing and scanning sales.

If you do not have an internet box that allows external network communication for the PrinterKiosk and Cartadis'nPay services, Cartadis can provide a 4G modem.

To use printing and scan features, the MFP IP address must be setup on the CMprint (see § 4.1.2.4 - MFP).

Scan feature requires the MFP to be AirScan (eSCL) compatible. The compatibility can also be checked through CartadisDB online documentation.

To simplify this connection, the CMprint is supplied with 2 Ethernet cables, enabling the CMprint to be plugged inside the MFP's Ethernet circuit.

The connection steps are:

1) Unplug the MFP from the Ethernet wall socket,

2) Connect a CMprint Ethernet cable to the MFP (any cable),

3) Plug the 2nd CMprint Ethernet cable into the Ethernet wall socket.

Note: If the CMprint is equipped with the Cartadis’N Pay Bank Card Terminal option, the second cable is used to provide network access to the Bank Card Terminal. In this case, the MFP must be connected to the network independently

5.2.5   Network flows

To ensure proper communication between the CMprint, the MFP, and external services, specific network flows must be allowed. The following tables list the necessary incoming and outgoing connections.

Outgoing Network Connection to Cartadis Servers to Be Opened

Incoming Ports to Be Opened Only on the Client LAN
